Name: Lars

Position: Quality Assurance Officer

Duties: Production planning, inspection of production-line samples, quality optimization, preparation of retention samples, and quality assurance throughout the entire production process

One word that describes my job: Quality

Must-haves: Conscientiousness, precision, reliability, teamwork, and a friendly attitude

Quality is no Coincidence

Lars keeps a close eye on the quality of our glass beads. At the SWARCO site in Schönborn (Germany), he uses his extensive experience and keen attention to detail to ensure that everything meets our stringent requirements. Only after the glass beads have successfully passed every inspection are they cleared to begin their journey to customers around the world.

Through his work, Lars helps ensure, every day, that our products deliver the consistently high quality for which SWARCO is known worldwide. His guiding principle is: .

From Installer to Quality Assurance Officer

Lars originally began his career by training as a gas and water installer. In 2007, he moved into the industrial sector, where he spent many years working shifts in production. During this time, he gained a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes from the ground up – knowledge that continues to benefit him today.

Lars has been part of SWARCO since 2019. As a Quality Assurance Officer, he is responsible for a wide range of quality assurance activities. From production and inspection planning to complaint management, root cause analysis, and quality optimization, his working day is varied and requires him to maintain an overview of the entire process.

Keeping an Eye on Every Bead

There is rarely such a thing as standing still in Lars’ role. New raw materials, new processes, or a new melting furnace continuously bring fresh challenges. For Lars, that is precisely what makes the job so appealing. He follows one simple principle:

“No compromises – high quality only.”

Ensuring that only flawless glass beads are delivered requires meticulous inspections, complete documentation, and clearly defined approval processes. These measures help minimize complaints, reduce costs, and safeguard SWARCO’s high quality standards over the long term.

Nevertheless, Lars feels most at home where everything is made – right in the heart of production. “I prefer working on the production floor to sitting at a computer. Documentation is, of course, just as important, as it provides the basis for transparent and traceable quality,” he explains.

Driven by Change

A particularly significant milestone was the introduction of a new production planning and process control system in 2021. Together with his colleagues, Lars helped rethink existing workflows and make them more transparent and standardized. It was not an easy undertaking, but it has delivered lasting improvements for the site.

Lars also remains committed to his own development. English lessons, ISO 9001 training, and audit-related courses are all a natural part of his professional life – and help him continuously strengthen his personal and professional capabilities.

Where Quality Begins

For Lars, quality begins with the raw materials used in production and only ends when the customer is satisfied with the delivered product.

The correct size distribution and roundness of the glass beads are particularly important. These characteristics are crucial to the beads’ subsequent performance as part of road marking systems. Through consistent raw material monitoring, regular inspections, and clearly defined approval procedures, the team ensures that only premium-quality glass beads are delivered.

High levels of customer satisfaction and long-standing customer relationships remind Lars every day why this commitment is worthwhile.

“Quality is no coincidence – it is created through diligence and inspection.”

Quality is Teamwork

For Lars, collaboration within the team is at least as important as product quality. At a smaller site such as Schönborn, everyone knows one another. Colleagues support each other, discuss challenges openly, and work together to find solutions.

“We talk to each other, not about each other.”

For Lars, this is what makes the difference. Everyone contributes their experience and ideas. Together, the team continuously improves its processes and ensures the consistently high quality of SWARCO reflective glass beads day after day. This atmosphere of trust not only makes collaboration easier, but it also makes the workplace something special.

Switching Off and Recharging

At the end of the working day, Lars enjoys spending time outdoors. Whether he is hiking with his wife and dog or working in the garden, nature provides the perfect balance to his professional responsibilities. It is where Lars recharges his batteries for the challenges of the next working day.
