Unexpected paths that turn out just right

When David first entered the company over ten years ago, he had a different plan. “I actually wanted to work in the lab,” he recalls. But even before starting his training at SWARCO, he was offered the chance to switch to the technical field of road markings. A decision that fundamentally changed his career path.

His first impression? “A very warm welcome from the colleagues.” Openness, exciting tasks, and an environment that sparked curiosity. The perfect start to a career that still excites him today. What stuck with David most is the family-like atmosphere in the company. After ten years in gastronomy, he knows how important good collaboration is. “Here, I can speak openly with everyone, from colleagues to managing directors. You almost always get a direct answer or are referred to the right person. Many things are handled quickly and informally - without long detours or forms. That makes things easier and builds trust.”

“My work is meaningful because I can transfer innovations from the lab into reality.”

A day full of variety

Workdays rarely follow a strict routine. While each day starts with a rough plan, things often turn out differently. “It’s a fast-paced environment. Customers call, have questions, and we provide the necessary information to ensure successful application.”

Tasks range from technical advice to the approval of new marking materials and on-site application support. In between spontaneous requests that require flexibility. And it’s precisely this variety that David enjoys: “I like that I can organize a lot myself. This flexibility is the best part.”

Between lab and road: Where technology becomes tangible

“We are the interface between development and application,” David explains. What starts in the lab often ends up on the road - literally. This means not only understanding marking solutions but also helping to shape them. Feedback from practice flows directly into further development.

David and his colleagues are rightly proud of this, as the impact of their work is visible and contributes significantly to road safety. A highlight for David was developing a road marking system for the Singaporean market. He shares with a satisfied smile: “I worked in the lab, helped develop the product, and then flew to Singapore to support the application on-site.” A multi-year project that shows how international and meaningful technical work can be.

“This ability to appear confident, especially in difficult situations, is something I learned here.”

Freedom with responsibility

A former colleague always used to say: “In technical roles, you get to work on what you choose.” Although it sounds almost too good to be true, there’s a lot of truth in it. The scope for creativity is large, as is the responsibility.

Whether optimizing products or supporting customers: the effort pays off. It creates solutions, improves processes, and ensures that products and solutions work and inspire.

Stronger
Together

“There are three of us in the office, and we constantly exchange ideas. Everyone brings different experiences, and we’re always learning from each other.” Even though many tasks are handled independently, the team is always present. Especially new colleagues benefit from this collaboration. Knowledge is shared, support comes naturally, and when things get tricky, someone is always there to help.

What remains is more than just a job. It’s a field of work that challenges and supports, connects and moves. With technology that makes an impact. With tasks that make sense - and with people who are passionate about what they do.

“The best part is seeing how your own product works out in the real world and being able to say: I helped develop that.”

Technical field service is the ideal position for people who want to combine technical understanding with strong communication skills. Those who enjoy interacting with customers, respond flexibly to new situations, and take pleasure in explaining complex topics in an understandable way will find a diverse and dynamic work environment at SWARCO. Especially important are self-responsibility, openness, and the willingness to engage with different people and tasks - in a team that works together as equals.

“I can address both colleagues and managing directors by their first names.”
