We have a vacancy for a General Operative (Public Lighting – Installation, Maintenance & Repair) for our Dublin team.
If you’re based in or around Dublin and have experience with basic electrical work, outdoor infrastructure, or utilities, this could be the role for you.
What you will do
Installing and maintaining public lighting infrastructure including columns, lanterns, cabling, and associated assets—helping ensure safe and reliable lighting across road networks.
You will liaise with customers and managers, complete job-related documentation (timesheets, job numbers, stock requisitions, vehicle logs), and take responsibility for maintaining your company vehicle, tools, and PPE.
- Install and maintain public lighting equipment to a high standard
- Liaise professionally with customers, local authorities, and internal teams
- Complete contract administration (timesheets, job numbers, stock control, vehicle records)
- Adhere to all company Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, plant, and PPE in a safe condition
- Support colleagues through training, guidance, and teamwork
KEY TASKS
- Carry out installation and maintenance of street lighting systems
- Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive fault repairs
- Diagnose and repair faults on lighting columns, lanterns, and electrical connections
- Assist with LED upgrade programmes and new installations
- Undertake minor civil works (excavation, ducting, reinstatement)
- Follow safe systems of work and RAMS at all times
- Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and on time
- Comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times
- Ensure all tools, plant, and equipment are safe and fit for purpose
- Attend training courses and toolbox talks
- Support Technicians and Engineers with project delivery and commissioning
- Participate in standby/callout rotas
- Assist in mentoring trainees and apprentices
- Comply with all QHSSE regulations and procedures
Profile
What we are looking for
Essential
- Leaving Certificate (or equivalent)
- Experience in civils, utilities, or construction
- Basic electrical knowledge (outdoor/public lighting desirable)
- Experience operating plant and machinery
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work at heights (e.g. MEWP)
- Willingness to work standby/callout rota and shifts
- Strong safety awareness and manual handling skills
- Full Category B driving licence
- Organised with good problem-solving ability
- Reliable, adaptable, and enthusiastic
Desirable
- Experience in public lighting or electrical infrastructure
- Electrical/Electronic training
- MEWP certification
- Safe Pass (ROI)
- CSCS Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Roadworks
- CSCS Location of Underground Services
- Full Category C driving licence
- Mechanical aptitude
- Experience working on local authority contracts
