What you will do
We have a vacancy for a CAD Design Engineer to join our team – ideally in/around the Melsonby area. Melsonby is our sole production site for the UK and Ireland. Using technical drawing and designs to build our traffic signals/lights.

Are you a detail‑driven CAD specialist who loves turning complex ideas into engineered reality? This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Product Delivery team, where your designs will directly shape the next generation of innovative electromechanical signage products used across major transport networks.
As a CAD Design Engineer, you’ll take the lead in producing high‑quality 3D designs, engineering drawings and structural simulations that drive our products from concept to manufacture. Working in a hands‑on engineering environment, you’ll collaborate closely with Electrical Design Engineers, Production teams and wider stakeholders to deliver accurate, reliable and manufacturable design solutions.

⭐ What you’ll be doing
- Creating detailed 3D CAD models and complete drawing packages using Autodesk Inventor.
- Producing and checking precision manufacturing drawings for internal and external suppliers.
- Running FEA structural simulations to validate designs.
- Developing and maintaining design standards, CAD automation tools, and iLogic functions.
- Generating Bills of Materials (BoMs) and managing CAD data through Autodesk Vault.
- Supporting product approvals, project model reviews, and cross‑department design collaboration.
- Ensuring data accuracy, revision control, and high engineering quality throughout the design lifecycle.
Profile
⭐ What you’ll bring
- 5+ years’ experience as a CAD Designer/Engineer, ideally in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- 3+ years using Autodesk Inventor, with strong modelling, drafting and assembly skills.
- Confident in creating manufacturing drawings, sheet‑metal parts, assemblies and electromechanical layouts.
- Working knowledge of FEA, structural principles and engineering tolerances.
- Experience with ERP/PDM, BOM management and version control.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture principles.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation and communication skills.
- Experience with iLogic programming or CAD automation tools is a major advantage.
