Challenge

The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) is an exhibition centre in Birmingham, England. It is near junction 6 of the M42 motorway, and is adjacent to Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham International railway station. It has 20 interconnected halls, set in grounds of 628 acres (2.54 km2) making it the largest exhibition centre in the UK. It is the busiest and seventh-largest exhibition centre in Europe

Details

SWARCO Traffic Limited was employed by The NEC Group Centre to design supply and install a Parking Guidance and Vehicle Counting System. The scope of the project included:-

  • 15 Full Colour Full Matrix Displays to guide visits to event parking areas and provide Traffic Information for exiting vehicles. The displays provide the ability to provide guidance by means of text or colour graphical images.
  • 15 TFT Bus Stop Information Displays showing passenger information, bus timetables and advertising to visitors at Bus Stop Locations within the site.
  • 37 Count Outstations monitoring 36 Car Parking Areas totalling 22,000 Parking Spaces.
  • SWARCO PGS Control System to automatically schedule and control the Variable Message Signs and provide statistical reports of car park occupancies.
  • Integration of all system components into Wireless Communication System.

Benefits

The project was complete and fully commissioned in February 2012, and SWARCO continue to provide maintenance and technical support to ensure the customer gets the optimum benefits from this state of the art system.
