CROSS–WALK increases safety at pedestrian crossings

According to a study published by the Austrian Road Safety Board the tendency to brake or stop the vehicle at pedestrian crossings was tested. The project took place in Breitenfurt near Vienna where SWARCO FUTURIT’s LED street light CROSS-WALK was applied. From this result, it can be concluded that the braking behavior of drivers increased from 33% with yellow sodium light to 60% by using white LED light. With CROSS-WALK, pedestrians get significantly enhanced visibility and conspicuity at zebra crossings thanks to being laterally illuminated out of each traffic flow direction. The pedestrians become optimally visible due to their contrast against the background created by the laterally shed light.
