FUTURLUX - PILOT PROJECT IN ALGHERO

09/23/2011

In ALGHERO, the province of Sassari in the North East of Sardinia, the capital of the Coral Riviera which is a city of around 50.000 inhabitants, during the month of August was started experimenting with innovative LED lamps FUTURLUX of SWARCO.

Alghero has a splendid seafront promenade, the Lungomare Barcelona, designed by the Catalan architect Busquests (who will receive the Erasmus prize in Amsterdam on 9 November 2011 for this and other works). It runs alongside the port and the whole length of the Lido, combining walkway, cycle track and road. In the tourist season the promenade is a continuous and lively flow of people walking and cycling, as well as motor traffic.

The original lighting consists of the lamp posts with arms in the form of praying mantis. The nodal point of the promenade is a new roundabout at the point where the Port adjoins the Lido. This is the location of the pilot demonstration of SWARCO-FUTURIT’s FUTURLUX BEAM lighting. Since mid August, these have provided bright white-light illumination for the whole junction, while the existing lighting along the rest of the promenade has the typical yellow tones of SAP lamps.

The experimentation, coordinated by the town councillor Ennio Ballarini, has been favourably received as a result of the quality of the light and lamp design, as well as the energy efficiency achieved.
