URBAN TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT, Czech Republic, Budweis

Municipality of Budweis, 2004 - 2014

Challenge

SWARCO was commissioned by the City of Budweis to install a modern urban traffic control centre for the city’s driving public (96,000 inhabitants) and its well structured public transport facilities (local buses, trolley buses, inter-city buses and trains). Due to environmental reasons, the City of Budweis also asked for a replacement of all old signals with energy saving and environmentally friendly LED technology.

Details

SWARCO’s solution not only includes the centralization of the intersections, but also covers service and maintenance as well as spare parts for the maintenance period:

  • 1 urban traffic control centre
  • Centralization of 35 intersections (hardware and software)
  • Traffic light controllers
  • Traffic sensors and communication devices (OCIT 1.1 interface)
  • Replacement of all old signals in 35 installations with LED technology (approx. 1,200 signals)
  • Coordination of the cabling works

Benefits

  • Greater automation and centralisation in urban traffic control
  • Modern design of signal lights and masts
  • Reduction of CO² emissions
  • Improved traffic flow and reduced overall congestion
  • Speed-up of inner-city traffic flow
  • Reduced energy costs for the local public sector due to LED technology
