SWARCO's system is designed to minimize the risk of accidents by monitoring the traffic flow and automatically closing lanes, reducing speed, and rerouting traffic when an incident is detected.
Variable Speed Control installations are encountered in many countries around the world and their number is increasing at an accelerated pace. The SWARCO system operates by monitoring the weather conditions and detecting traffic speeds, density and headway (distance between vehicles). When the conditions demand it, appropriate speed limits are put in place automatically. Such systems help to reduce the risk of accidents and maximize traffic flow.
In addition to the software algorithms used to implement Variable Speed Control, SWARCO also provides the necessary hardware, such as loop detectors to measure traffic flow, motorway outstations and high visibility LED speed and lane control signs.
