For all traffic tunnels longer than 400 m, the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs has stipulated that emergency fire lighting and escape route marking must be installed. The German Federal Office for Roads and Traffic (BASt) has been entrusted with the technical and optical configuration.

To improve the situation, SWARCO has developed a combined Escape Route and Emergency Fire Light that complies with the material definition of fire protection class E 30.

LED lighting:

The sign‘s internal illumination consists of white high-performance LEDs. For additional safety, should one LED ever fail, the others remain lit.

Side halogen reflectors:

The lateral halogen spot lights are integrated on the flattened side parts of the housing behind safety glass. Light intensity is guaranteed above the standard level, even with extreme angles of +90° and -90°.

LED identification lights:

To increase the emergency fire light‘s visibility, 10 green LEDs are fitted on either side.

Halogen reflectors:

The use of 3 halogen reflectors ensures optimum radiation characteristics, as every halogen reflector takes up another angle position.

The escape route marking was designed in such a way that in case of fire, the halogen reflectors light up for at least 30 minutes at a temperature of 250°C (functional integrity E30).
