SWARCO MODERNIZES TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT FOR EURO 2012
08/10/2011
The European Football Championship 2012 in Poland and Ukraine has triggered the need for an innovative and modern traffic management system for Lviv. SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS won the project which includes the coordination and configuration of 29 intersections along the tram lines 2 and 6, with an overall length of 19 km. The new system will meet the requirements of the general traffic, public transport and pedestrians and must be capable of handling the expected high traffic volumes during EURO 2012. In addition, the traffic management will improve travel times of public transport by 20 percent. The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. During the press conference in Lviv the 3.4 MEUR contract was officially awarded to SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS, MIZAR and SWARCO FUTURIT.
SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS boasts a wide range of products and innovative, ecologically sound and economical solutions and has a successful and long-standing international sales department. Project manager Annette Gölz and technical director Andreas Dreher will manage the project which is implemented by SWARCO and partner BUDIMEX.
The SWARCO experts and the project team will integrate state-of-the-art LED technology and ACTROS.line controllers in the traffic management system of Lviv. The use of the OMNIA Web-GUI in connection with the traffic computer VRS 5000 with OCIT V2.0 interface makes this solution very sustainable, especially due to its easy extensibility. Variable message signs and red light enforcement are part of the project. A noticeable speed up of public transport (tram line 2 and 6) is a key requirement and will be achieved with FLASH, MIZAR’s public transport management and real-time passenger information system.
A tailor-made five-year service and maintenance package has also been signed to guarantee optimum customer satisfaction after the completion of the project.
